Roeland van Zeijst is a Digital Crime Officer at the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation in Singapore. Seconded from the National High Tech Crime Unit of the Netherlands, Mr. Van Zeijst currently works in INTERPOL’s cyber intelligence hub, the iconic Cyber Fusion Centre. In the 1990s, Roeland van Zeijst founded the first direct-access internet provider in his country. After obtaining a degree in Computer Engineering, Mr. Van Zeijst worked as an award-winning radio presenter, while simultaneously studying the scientific field of Artificial Intelligence, to which he graduated cum laude in 2006. Prior to his role at the Dutch National Police, Roeland was a ‘counter-thinker’ for the Amsterdam police, offering a dissenting voice within the police force in general and its detective department in particular. After completing his work for this police think-tank, he stayed on as an innovation project manager for the force, playing a key part in implementing Burgernet – the national interactive civilian’s alert network. In 2012, Roeland joined the rapidly expanding National High Tech Crime Unit of the Netherlands as both a strategy expert and a special investigations officer for high-tech crimes, where he was involved the unit’s strategic setup as well as its daily operations. In 2015, Mr. Van Zeijst joined INTERPOL as it continues to expand its reach into the cyber domain.
